It can be a little tough to get right, so I figured I'd extend my knowledge to my fellow redditors. AMA. Let the questions begin!

edit

The questions are trickling off and I have to spend some time with my daughter. Hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did :)

edit again
Back and answering questions. I feel like a few are slipping through the cracks and it's hard to track everything on this thread at this point. If you really have a question that I didn't get to, feel free to pm me. Also, redditor Joe Schmoe has been hopping in on a few of these. He knows what he's talking about.

technical information by request

There are positives and negatives to saltwater pools. For the typical owner, they are easier to maintain and don't require keeping as many chemicals on hand or adding them as often. Basically, several hundred pounds of salt is added to the pool water to bring it into an ideal range of 2700-3200 ppm. The vast majority of people cannot taste this in the water. The sodium chloride is turned into sodium hypochlorite via electrolysis. Once it's done it's business, it reverts back into sodium chloride. These pools are easier to maintain and are generally more comfortable to swim in. However, there have been a few comments in the thread about the salt causing oxidation in surrounding metal such as pool slides, and causing an excess buildup of heavy metals. I cannot attest to either of these as I have not experienced either. Don't be afraid to do some research!

submitted by poolwizard
[link] [591 comments]I'm on house arrest AMAAhttp://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/cw0a0/im_on_house_arrest_amaa/http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/cw0a0/im_on_house_arrest_amaa/Sun, 01 Aug 2010 03:53:55 +00002010-08-01T03:53:55.584752+00:00

In lieu of a somewhat lengthy jail sentence, I've been placed on supervised electronic confinement.
